About this tool

Convert salary to hourly pay and back

This salary to hourly converter turns a yearly salary into an hourly rate, or an hourly rate into a yearly salary. It also shows the matching daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly pay.

How to use it

  1. Choose Annual → Hourly or Hourly → Annual.
  2. Enter the annual salary or the hourly rate.
  3. Set Hours per Week (default 40) and Weeks per Year (default 52).
  4. Read the main result and the six pay periods below it.

How it works

The converter first finds your paid hours per year: hours per week × weeks per year. With the defaults that is 40 × 52 = 2,080 hours.

  • Hourly = annual salary ÷ yearly hours
  • Annual = hourly rate × yearly hours
  • Daily = hourly × hours per week ÷ 5 (a five-day week)
  • Weekly = hourly × hours per week
  • Bi-weekly = weekly × 2
  • Monthly = annual ÷ 12

Results are rounded to two decimals and shown with a $ sign, but the maths works the same for any currency.

Example: $60,000 a year

PeriodPay (40 hrs, 52 wks)
Hourly$28.85
Daily$230.77
Weekly$1,153.85
Bi-weekly$2,307.69
Monthly$5,000.00

Tips

  • Lower the weeks per year to account for unpaid leave. Fewer paid hours means a higher hourly rate for the same salary.
  • For part-time work, change hours per week to your real hours.
  • Use Hourly → Annual to compare a contract or freelance rate with a salaried job offer.
  • Monthly pay is annual ÷ 12, an even average across the year.

Frequently asked questions

Does it show my in-hand salary after tax?

No. All figures are gross pay before tax, insurance or other deductions. Your in-hand salary will be lower and depends on local tax rules.

How many working hours are in a year?

With a 40-hour week and 52 weeks, it is 2,080 hours. You can change both numbers in the converter.

Can I use it for a currency other than dollars?

Yes. The tool only multiplies and divides, so enter the amount in your own currency and ignore the $ sign.
