About this tool

Find and replace text in your browser

This find and replace tool searches pasted text for a word, phrase or regular expression and swaps every match for new text in one click. It shows how many matches it found before you replace anything, so you can check your search first. Use it to fix a repeated typo, rename a variable in a code snippet, clean up a CSV export or change a date format across a long document.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text into the Source Text box.
  2. Type what you want to find in Find, and the new text in Replace With. Leave Replace With empty to delete every match.
  3. Turn on any options you need: Case sensitive, Match whole word or Use regex.
  4. Check the live count ("3 matches found"), then click Replace All.
  5. The changed text appears in the Result box with the number of replacements made. Click Copy to copy it.

How it works

The tool builds a JavaScript regular expression from your search. In normal mode, special characters such as ., * and ( are escaped, so they match literally. With Use regex on, your pattern is used as written. Whole-word mode wraps the pattern in \b word boundaries. The search is always global, so every match is replaced, and it ignores case unless you tick Case sensitive. Everything runs in your browser; the text is not sent anywhere or saved.

Case sensitive"Apple" no longer matches "apple"
Match whole word"cat" will not match inside "category"

Tips

  • In regex mode you can use capture groups. Find (\d{2})/(\d{2})/(\d{4}) and replace with $3-$2-$1 to turn 25/12/2026 into 2026-12-25.
  • An invalid pattern shows a red Regex error message and disables Replace All until you fix it.
  • Whole-word matching uses \b, which works best with plain letters and numbers. It may not behave as expected around accented letters or symbols.
  • The Result box does not update on its own. If you edit the source text, click Replace All again.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use regular expressions?

Yes. Tick Use regex and type a JavaScript-style pattern in the Find box. Groups like $1 work in the replacement text.

Is my text uploaded or stored?

No. Matching and replacing happen in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is saved after you leave the page.

How do I remove a word completely?

Type the word in Find, leave Replace With empty and click Replace All. Every match is deleted. Turn on Match whole word so parts of longer words are left alone.
