About this tool

Calculate pace, finish time or distance

This running pace calculator finds the missing number when you know two of pace, time and distance. It works in kilometres or miles and also shows your speed in km/h and mph.

How to use it

  1. Pick km or miles with the unit switch at the top.
  2. Choose a mode:
    • Pace → Time: enter pace (minutes and seconds) and distance to get total time.
    • Time → Pace: enter total time (hours, minutes, seconds) and distance to get pace and speed.
    • Pace + Time → Distance: enter pace and total time to get the distance covered.
  3. The result updates as you type.

How it works

Everything is converted to seconds first. Then the calculator uses three simple formulas:

  • Time = pace × distance
  • Pace = time ÷ distance
  • Distance = time ÷ pace

To switch between units it uses 1 mile = 1.60934 km. In Time → Pace mode you get pace per km, pace per mile, km/h and mph together. In distance mode you get the answer in both kilometres and miles. Total time is shown as HH:MM:SS and pace as M:SS.

Example race paces

DistanceFinish timePace per km
5 km25:005:00 /km
10 km50:005:00 /km
Half marathon (21.0975 km)2:00:00about 5:41 /km
Marathon (42.195 km)4:00:00about 5:41 /km

Tips

  • For a race goal, use Time → Pace with your target time to find the pace to hold.
  • Distance accepts decimals, so you can enter 21.1 or 42.195.
  • The pace you set applies to the selected unit, so check km or miles before you type.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert min per km to km/h?

Divide 60 by your pace in minutes. A 5:00 /km pace is 60 ÷ 5 = 12 km/h. In Time → Pace mode the calculator shows this speed for you.

Can I use it for marathon pace?

Yes. Enter 42.195 km (or 26.2 miles) and your goal time in Time → Pace mode to get the pace per km and per mile.

Does it account for hills or weather?

No. It does plain maths on pace, time and distance. Real race pace can change with terrain, heat and fatigue.
