About this tool

Generate JSON-LD structured data

This JSON-LD generator builds schema.org structured data for seven common page types and wraps it in a ready-to-paste <script type="application/ld+json"> tag. Structured data helps search engines understand a page, and for some types it makes the page eligible for rich results. It is generated in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Choose a schema type.
  2. Fill in the fields. Required ones are marked with an asterisk.
  3. For FAQ, breadcrumb and HowTo types, use the add and remove buttons to manage question, item or step rows.
  4. Read the red messages (these block the output) and the amber suggestions (these do not).
  5. When no errors remain, click Copy and paste the script tag into your page.

Supported types

TypeWhat you enter
FAQPageAny number of question and answer rows
ArticleArticle, BlogPosting or NewsArticle; headline, author, dates, image, publisher
ProductName, image, SKU, brand, price and currency, availability, rating and review count
LocalBusinessBusiness type, name, address, phone, price range, opening hours
OrganizationName, URL, logo, email, phone, social profile links
BreadcrumbListRows of name and URL, numbered automatically
HowToTitle, description, total time in minutes, step rows

What the checks do

  • Required fields per type must be filled before any output appears, for example a headline and author for an Article, or a name and city for a LocalBusiness.
  • Completely empty rows are skipped. A half-filled row, such as a question without an answer, is flagged.
  • Product prices must be numbers with a 3-letter currency code. A rating needs both a value between 1 and 5 and a review count.
  • URLs that are not full http(s) addresses get a suggestion. Breadcrumb items other than the last one should have a URL.
  • HowTo total time is converted to an ISO 8601 duration, for example 15 minutes becomes PT15M.

These are basic checks of the tool's own rules. They do not guarantee a rich result, and the tool does not call Google. Always test the final page with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.

Safe output

User text is escaped so it cannot break out of the script tag. The characters <, > and & are written as \u003c, \u003e and \u0026, which is still valid JSON and reads back as the original text.

Tips

  • Mark up only what is visible on the page. Structured data that does not match the page content can be ignored.
  • Google limited FAQ rich results to a small set of sites, so FAQ markup may not show as a rich result for yours. It is still valid schema.org data.
  • To use several types on one page, generate each one and paste each script tag separately.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I paste the JSON-LD?

Paste the whole script tag into the <head> or the <body> of the page it describes. Both locations are accepted by search engines.

Why is the output box empty?

The output only appears when all required fields are filled. The red messages next to the output list what is missing.

Does valid JSON-LD guarantee rich results?

No. Rich results depend on the search engine's own rules and on the page. This tool produces well-formed markup using common schema.org properties, but eligibility is decided by Google.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. The JSON-LD is built in your browser.
