Remove a solid background colour
This transparent background remover makes one colour in your image fully transparent and saves the result as a PNG. It works best on logos, icons, signatures, screenshots and product shots on a plain white or single-colour background. It does not use AI and does not detect subjects, so it is not suited to photos with busy or gradient backgrounds.
How to use it
- Drop an image onto the upload area or click to browse.
- Use the colour picker to choose the background colour to remove (white by default).
- Set the tolerance from 0 to 150 (40 by default).
- Click Remove Background and check the preview on the checkerboard.
- Click Download PNG to save
transparent-image.png.
How the tolerance works
For every pixel the tool adds up the difference between its red, green and blue values and your chosen colour. If that total is at most tolerance × 3, the pixel becomes fully transparent.
Example: removing white (255, 255, 255) with tolerance 40 allows a total difference of 120. An off-white pixel of (240, 245, 250) differs by 15 + 10 + 5 = 30, so it is removed. A light grey of (200, 200, 200) differs by 165, so it stays.
Tips for clean results
- Edges left behind: raise the tolerance a little — JPEG compression creates slightly off-colour pixels around edges.
- Holes in your subject: lower the tolerance. Matching pixels are removed everywhere in the image, not only around the edges, so white areas inside a logo can disappear too.
- Start from the largest, highest-quality original you have.
- The PNG keeps the original width and height.
Frequently asked questions
Can it remove a photo background automatically?
No. It removes a single colour you choose. Backgrounds with shadows, gradients or many colours will not be removed cleanly.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is processed on a canvas in your browser and the PNG is created on your device.
Why save as PNG?
PNG supports transparency. JPEG does not, so a transparent area saved as JPEG would turn solid again.
