Check an image's size, dimensions and aspect ratio
This image info tool shows a preview of your picture together with its file name, file size, width and height in pixels, and aspect ratio. It is a quick way to answer "how big is this image?" before you upload it to a website, a form or a social profile that has size rules.
How to use it
- Drop an image onto the box, or click it to choose a file from your device.
- The image appears in a preview area that fits it to the screen without cropping.
- Read the four details below the preview: Filename, File Size, Dimensions and Aspect Ratio.
- To check another image, drop or choose a new file. It replaces the current one.
How it works
The file is read with your browser's FileReader and loaded into an image element. The tool then reads the image's natural width and height, so the dimensions are the real pixel size of the file, not the size of the preview on screen. File size comes from the file itself and is shown in a readable unit such as KB or MB. The image is processed only in your browser and is not uploaded to a server.
The aspect ratio is found by dividing the width and height by their greatest common divisor. A 1920 x 1080 photo gives 16:9 and a 1080 x 1080 image gives 1:1.
Common aspect ratios
| Example size | Ratio shown | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 1920 x 1080 | 16:9 | Video, widescreen |
| 1080 x 1080 | 1:1 | Square posts, avatars |
| 1080 x 1350 | 4:5 | Portrait feed posts |
| 4000 x 3000 | 4:3 | Many phone and camera photos |
Tips
- The ratio is exact, not rounded. A 1366 x 768 screen shot shows
683:384, which is close to 16:9 but not equal to it. - Only image files are accepted. Other file types are ignored.
- The tool shows information only. It does not change, resize or save your image.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is read and displayed by your browser. It is not sent to a server, and it is gone when you close or reload the page.
Does it show camera details or EXIF data?
No. It shows only the file name, file size, pixel dimensions and aspect ratio. Camera model, date taken and location data are not read.
Why do the dimensions differ from the preview size?
The preview is scaled to fit the page. The Dimensions value is the image's true width and height in pixels, read from the file.
