This color picker from image works like an eyedropper. Upload a photo, logo or screenshot, click any spot and get the colour as a HEX code and an RGB value. Use it to match brand colours, build a palette from a photo or copy a colour into CSS or a design app.

How to pick a colour from an image

1. Drop an image onto the upload box, or click to choose one.
2. Click Load Image on Canvas to show the image.
3. Click any point on the image. The cursor turns into a crosshair.
4. See the colour swatch, its HEX code and RGB value, then click Copy HEX.

Click again anywhere to pick another colour.

How HEX and RGB are worked out

The tool reads the red, green and blue values (0–255) of the pixel you click. The HEX code is those three numbers written as two-digit hexadecimal values.

Example: a pixel of rgb(255, 99, 71) gives 255 = ff, 99 = 63 and 71 = 47, so the HEX code is #ff6347.

Images wider than 700 pixels are scaled down to 700 pixels wide for picking. On large images, one point on screen can blend a few original pixels, so the value may differ slightly from the original file. Pick from flat areas of colour for the most accurate result.

Tips

• Avoid edges and shadows; colours change quickly there.
• JPEG compression can shift colours slightly. Use a PNG or the original logo file when matching brand colours.
• Transparency is ignored, so fully transparent areas of a PNG usually read as black (#000000).
