About this tool

Resize an image to the exact size you need

This image resizer changes the width and height of a picture. Set the size in pixels or scale it by a percentage, then download the result. It is a fast way to fit a photo to a website, form or profile picture limit.

How to use it

  1. Drop an image on the upload box, or click it to choose a file.
  2. Choose Pixels or Percentage.
  3. In Pixels mode, enter a new width or height. With the link icon on, the other side updates to keep the shape. Click the icon to unlock it and set both freely.
  4. In Percentage mode, move the slider from 1% to 200%. The new size in pixels is shown below it.
  5. Click Resize Image, check the preview, then click Download Resized Image.

How it works

The tool draws your image onto an HTML canvas at the new width and height, right in your browser. PNG files are saved as PNG. Other formats are saved as JPEG at 92% quality. After resizing you see the new file size, width and height. The file name gets the new size added, for example photo_800x600.

Pixels vs percentage

ModeBest for
PixelsHitting an exact size, such as 1200 × 630 for a social image
PercentageShrinking or enlarging by a set amount, such as 50%

Tips

  • Keep the aspect ratio locked to avoid a stretched or squashed image.
  • Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Enlarging above 100% adds no new detail and can look soft.
  • Fewer pixels usually means a smaller file, which helps pages load faster.
  • To resize many images at once, use our bulk image resizer.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing keep my image's proportions?

Yes, while the link icon is on. Percentage mode always keeps the proportions, because it scales width and height by the same amount.

What format is the resized image?

A PNG stays PNG. JPG and other formats are saved as JPEG, so transparent areas in those formats are not kept.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The image is resized in your browser and downloaded straight to your device.
