About this tool

Sketch on a canvas and save it like a screenshot

This screenshot-like tool gives you a blank canvas to draw on with your mouse, then saves the drawing as a PNG image. Use it for a quick wireframe, an arrow-and-box diagram, or a handwritten note you want to share as a picture.

How to use it

  1. Set the brush size in the number box. The default is 12.
  2. Hold the left mouse button and drag on the canvas to draw.
  3. Click Clear Canvas to wipe it and start again.
  4. Click Download PNG to save the image as canvas-shot.png.

How it works

The tool uses an HTML canvas that is 1000 × 520 pixels. It scales your mouse position to that size, so the line lands where you point even when the canvas is shown smaller on screen. Each stroke is a dark grey (#1b1b1b) line with round ends and joins. The download uses the canvas's own PNG export, so the file is always 1000 × 520 pixels. Everything happens in your browser. Your drawing is not uploaded.

Tips

  • A smaller brush (2–6) works well for writing. A larger one suits arrows and highlights.
  • The canvas starts with no painted background, so an early download has a transparent background. Click Clear Canvas first if you want a solid off-white background in the PNG.
  • There is no undo. Clear and redraw if a line goes wrong.

Frequently asked questions

Can I draw on a screenshot I already have?

No. This tool does not open or import images. It only gives you a blank canvas that you can sketch on and save as a PNG.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Drawing listens for mouse events, so it works best on a computer with a mouse or trackpad. Touch drawing may not work on many phones.

Is my drawing uploaded anywhere?

No. The drawing stays on the canvas in your browser, and the PNG is created on your device when you click Download.
