About this tool

Turn any image into a round profile picture

This circle crop tool cuts a perfect circle from your image and saves it as a square PNG, ready for profile pictures, avatars, team pages and email signatures. The image is processed in your browser with an HTML canvas and is not uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Click the upload box or drag an image onto it (any image format your browser can open).
  2. Set the output size with the slider: 100 to 1000 pixels, in 50 px steps (default 400 px).
  3. Choose the background for the corners outside the circle: transparent, white or black.
  4. Check the preview and click Download PNG. The file is saved as circle-crop.png.

How the crop works

The tool takes the largest square from the centre of your image (the shorter side sets its size), scales it to your chosen output size and clips it to a circle that touches all four edges.

Example: a 1200 × 800 photo gives an 800 × 800 square from the middle — 200 px is trimmed from the left and right. At a 400 px output, that square is scaled down to 400 × 400 and the circle has a 200 px radius.

There is no drag or zoom control, so if the face or logo is off-centre, crop the image to a rough square around the subject first, then use this tool.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a profile picture be?

400 px works for most platforms. Choose 800–1000 px if the image will be shown large or on high-resolution screens. Making it bigger than the original square only enlarges it and will not add detail.

Why is the download square and not round?

Image files are always rectangular. The corners outside the circle are transparent (or filled with white or black), so the picture looks round when displayed.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is read and cropped locally in your browser.
