Image Metadata Remover

Remove hidden data from your photos

Photos from phones and cameras carry hidden metadata: the camera model, date and time, settings and often the exact GPS location where the photo was taken. This image metadata remover creates a clean copy of your image without that data, so you can share it safely.

How to remove metadata from an image

1. Upload or drop an image.
2. The tool redraws the image and creates a clean copy.
3. Compare the original and clean file sizes and check the preview.
4. Click Download Clean Image.

How it works

The image is drawn onto an HTML canvas and exported as a brand-new file. Only the pixels are copied, so embedded metadata — EXIF camera details, GPS coordinates and other tags — is not carried over. PNG files stay PNG; other formats are saved as high-quality JPEG (92%).

Everything happens in your browser. Your photo is never uploaded to a server.

What metadata can reveal

• GPS location — where you live, work or travel.
• Date and time the photo was taken.
• Device — phone or camera make, model and sometimes serial number.
• Software used to edit the image.

Many social networks strip this data, but email, messaging apps, cloud links, marketplaces and forums often keep it.

When to remove metadata

• Selling items online with photos taken at home.
• Sharing photos of children or your home.
• Sending images to clients or publishing them on a website.
• Reducing file size — metadata and embedded previews add extra bytes.

Frequently asked questions

Does removing metadata reduce image quality?

PNG images keep full quality. Other formats are re-saved as JPEG at 92% quality, which is visually very close to the original.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The clean copy is created on your device.

How can I check if a photo has GPS data?

On Windows, right-click the file and open Properties → Details. On a Mac, open it in Preview and choose Tools → Show Inspector.
