About this tool

Crop an image to an exact pixel area

This image cropper cuts out the part of a picture you want by its exact pixel position and size. Upload one image, type the crop area, and download the result as a PNG. It is handy when you need a precise size, such as a 1200 × 630 banner or a square avatar. For many images at once, use our bulk image cropper.

How to use it

  1. Drop an image on the upload box, or click it to choose a file. The box shows the file name, its size in pixels and its size in KB.
  2. Enter X and Y, the top-left corner of the area to keep. The default is 0, 0.
  3. Enter the Width and Height of the area. The default is 200 × 200.
  4. Click Crop Image to see a preview.
  5. Click Download Cropped Image. The file is saved as yourname_cropped.png.

How it works

All values are in pixels of the original image, not the smaller preview. X counts from the left edge and Y counts from the top edge. The tool draws only the chosen area onto an HTML canvas and exports it as PNG.

If your area goes past the edge of the image, the tool trims it so it stays inside the picture. For example, a 500-pixel-wide crop that starts at X = 800 on a 1000-pixel image becomes 200 pixels wide.

Your image is read and cropped in your browser. It is not uploaded to a server.

Tips

  • To center a crop, set X to (image width − crop width) ÷ 2 and Y to (image height − crop height) ÷ 2.
  • The output is always PNG. A cropped photo may be larger in KB than the original JPG. Compress or convert it afterwards if file size matters.
  • Use the aspect ratio calculator to work out a crop size for a ratio like 16:9 or 4:5.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drag a box to select the crop area?

No. You type the exact X, Y, width and height instead. This gives pixel-perfect results that are easy to repeat.

Which image formats can I crop?

Any image your browser can open, such as JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF. The cropped file is saved as PNG.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is loaded and cropped in your browser, and the download is created on your device.
